Recently, a cruise ship traveler shared their quite unique experience aboard a vessel that isn’t your average holiday getaway—it was a cruise with a twist, hosting 2000 passengers who all embraced the nudist lifestyle.
Like many, the thought of embarking on a cruise might instantly bring to mind scenes from “Titanic,” potentially enough to swear off the idea altogether.
However, the concept of everyone aboard being in their natural state might offer a different kind of distraction, especially considering the old advice of picturing your audience naked to calm nerves.
But, what happens when the reality of being surrounded by a sea of nudity becomes a bit overwhelming, possibly even causing some… unexpected reactions?
A certain traveler, fresh from the experience of a “2,000 person nude cruise,” decided to open up about their adventure on Reddit, specifically in the r/AMA (Ask Me Anything) thread.
This journey wasn’t just a brief outing but a seven-day voyage costing $2,500, orchestrated by the Texas-based Bare Necessities Tour and Travel, which embarked from Tampa, Florida.
Identifying themselves as an “experienced nudist,” the poster, u/wisecommenter2, expressed that they felt quite at ease with the nudist aspect from the start.

However, curiosity arose around how one might handle becoming visibly aroused in such an environment, given the all-nude setting.
A user, u/LostnHidden, broached the subject by asking: “Maybe not specific to the cruise, but nudism in general… I’m assuming boners just happen, since it happens in everyday clothed life, too. Are they frowned upon or just accepted in this environment?”
The original poster clarified that in their experience, such occurrences are rare.
“This cruise is very non-sexual, so a man would want to hide it somehow. Non-nudists think about this a lot more than nudists do,” they explained, pointing out that the atmosphere of the cruise didn’t lend itself to sexual excitement.
Another curious Reddit user, u/tortillini-houdini, inquired: “What was the rule for boners?”
The traveler reiterated their earlier point: “As I said above, this is something that nonnudists worry about a lot more than nudists.
“I’ve been a nudist for ten years and I’ve almost never seen one.”

“Since this cruise is not a sex-positive event, the man would be expected to conceal it.”
Further delving into the purpose behind nudism, a user named u/YoungandPregnant asked: “If the nudist thing is not sexual in nature at all, what is it for? Is it for looking? Do you WANT to see other naked bodies?”
Responding, the nudist cruiser likened the experience to the freedom one feels when skinny dipping, highlighting the joy of participating in activities such as swimming, dancing, and beach strolls without the confines of clothing.
The traveler said: “Have you ever gone skinny dipping? It’s great to be nude to go swimming, dancing, walking along the beach, etc.”
“For me, that’s the main thing. If I’m candid, I don’t mind seeing naked women, so that’s nice too. It’s the same reason men don’t wear shirts to go swimming or on the beach.”
“It’s great feeling. I’m sure some people have an exhibitionist thrill, but I don’t. Also, I’m not sure that a naked person among 2,000 naked people could be considered an exhibitionist.”
So, for those curious about the inner workings of a nude cruise, this traveler’s insights offer a glimpse into a world where nudity is normalized, and the focus is on freedom, comfort, and the simple joy of being unencumbered by clothing.
Whether or not this piques your interest enough to consider joining a nudist voyage is entirely up to you.
