After hearing a fan’s girlfriend make what seemed to be a derogatory joke about her work in adult films, Mia Khalifa broke down in tears.

The 30-year-old former adult star talked candidly about an incident that brought her to tears while out to dinner with her pals in an interview with YouTuber Anthony Padilla back in 2021.

Khalifa, whose true name is Sarah Joe Chamoun, first gained notoriety in the adult entertainment industry after starting what she called an “abusive” career.

Despite having only shot a few videos—the most controversial of which included her engaging in sexual actions while disguising herself as a Muslim woman donning a headscarf—the actress shot to popularity right away, ranking among the most sought-after adult stars worldwide at one point.

After a brief stay in the business, Khalifa left, though, and started speaking out about the mistreatment she had received at the hands of people who “preyed” on her when she was “vulnerable.”

The social media celebrity talked about how her prior work still bothers her, even if it seems like she moved on from it.

“I was at a business meeting in London and I was there with a company that I had just signed with,” Khalifa told Padilla during their time together.

“It was the two men who were the heads of the company and my manager at the time. We were just sitting down celebrating having just done a great press tour for the project we were working on, and I get come up to [sic] by this guy and his girlfriend.”

Khalifa declined the man’s request for a picture because she was having lunch in a formal environment at the time.

She acknowledged that she could have handled it better, but she was unable to get ready for what was about to happen.

The man’s girlfriend called him “rude” before making a cheap and utterly disgusting joke about him, saying, “I told you that wasn’t her. There’s not enough c*m on her face. Let’s go, babe.”

She told the interviewer, “I went to the bathroom to cry about the interaction because I didn’t really know how to handle it, especially because it came from a woman and especially because I was there for business.”

Fortunately, the individuals she was conducting business with were fully aware of the circumstances and made an effort to console Khalifa; as a result, their working relationship remained unharmed.

The actress also spoke in-depth about her early introduction to adult film during a recent appearance on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast.

“I got talked into eloping to Las Vegas four days after my 18th birthday,” she said. “I didn’t have a sense of self so I attached myself to someone who was more than happy to abuse that and someone who could see that and see someone easily manipulatable… but at the same time eager to please. It was just the perfect storm.”

But when her husband, who was serving in the US Army at the time, introduced her to the adult entertainment business, things seemed to take an even more deadly turn.

She continued, saying, “[He] put that whole [adult film] world in front of me and encouraged it,” but she does not want to call it a “relationship.”

“I even feel weird calling it a relationship, because the dynamic was not one of a relationship – it was more one of someone who saw a toy to play with,” she said.

Khalifa’s journey is a reminder that even when one attempts to leave a controversial past behind, the echoes of that history can linger, impacting one’s present and future
