Rebel Wilson Reveals Shocking Film Set Accident That Nearly Left Her Face ‘Permanently Disfigured’

Rebel Wilson shared how the accident occurred in what was her final fight scene of her latest comedy

Rebel Wilson had a terrifying experience on the set of her new movie Bride Hard, which almost left her with what she called a ‘permanent disfigurement’.

The Australian actress takes on the role of a spy in the action-comedy, where she attends her childhood best friend’s wedding—only to have the ceremony crashed by dangerous mercenaries. But as it turns out, the 45-year-old’s character is more than ready to fight back and take control of the chaos.

Ironically though, it was Wilson herself who faced an unexpected injury while filming. She revealed that during her final fight scene—shot at 3am, she suffered a serious injury that required actual stitches, and not the laugh-out-loud kind you’d expect from a comedy. The whole ordeal led to a rushed visit to a plastic surgeon.

During a promotional appearance for the hour-and-45-minute-long film alongside her co-star Anna Camp, Wilson opened up about what really went down behind the scenes with director Simon West.

“I did have a massive injury on this movie. I was in a fight scene, a gun accidentally got whacked across my face – it was just a freak accident, and my nose got split open.” Wilson shared with Access Hollywood, reflecting on the painful incident.

“So I left set. It was weirdly my last night of shooting, I was like, ‘how unlucky can I be?’, the last night of shooting, the last fight sequence my nose gets bust open – it’s a pool of blood. If anybody’s had a facial injury, they know, like, there’s so much blood.”

“I was freaking out, they take me in an ambulance and they have to call a plastic surgeon, because if they didn’t I would have been permanently disfigured. So we got the plastic surgeon, they did all the stitches, and you can’t tell now, like, you really can’t tell.”

She followed up by saying: “Yeah, it was just one of those freak accidents. And so people gotta be real careful with onset safety, even sometimes when it’s 3am in the morning and everyone’s tired. Yes, you got to be real careful.”

Wilson might have hoped that all the pain and chaos would be worth it if Bride Hard turned out to be a crowd-pleaser. But if early reactions from respected movie critics are any sign, that wish might not come true.

Critic William Bibbiani from The Wrap didn’t hold back, giving the film a scathing headline that read: “This Incompetent Action-Comedy Is Where Humor Goes to Die”. He even described the movie as being “abrasively hard to watch”—which says a lot!

Similarly, Angie Han from The Hollywood Reporter wasn’t impressed either. Her review was titled: “Rebel Wilson’s Laugh-Free Action Comedy Is an Invitation You’ll Want to Decline”.

Now, while the experts weren’t exactly fans, it’s still possible the movie could provide a bit of fun if you’re just looking for something light to help you pass the time on a slow afternoon.
