It didn’t take long for fans to light up the internet with praise. One person wrote: “I am surprised this collaboration hasn’t happened sooner. I have always loved @salmahayek This is Fire,”, while another shared: “My Mexican queen!!!!”
Additional reactions included: “Wow!!! Fantastic choice! I will definitely buy a few copies of those!!! Timeless classic! Cheers!” and: “I dreamed of Salma appearing in SI, and now that dream has come true.”
Someone else chimed in: “She’s truly an icon congratulations @salmahayek”, and another follower gushed: “Obsessed is an understatement.”
Salma also gave fans a behind-the-scenes peek at her photoshoot, sharing a video where she models various bikinis while lounging in a pool, rolling around on the beach, and getting swept away by a massive wave.
Opening up to Sports Illustrated, she expressed just how much the opportunity meant to her, saying: “I remember when I was young, a long, long time ago, I was always excited to see the Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated, and [thinking] ‘Who’s going to be in it?'”
“Of course, I didn’t look like a model, so it never crossed my mind that one day I would be in it.”
“If somebody had told me I was gonna be in it at 58, I would have sent them to the madhouse, but the world has changed, and that’s exciting.”
Salma reflected on how views around aging have shifted, especially as she approaches her sixties, and she added: “I could retire, but I don’t want to miss out on this time.”
“I fought for it, you know, and I’ve been part of it, and I think it’s really remarkable that a magazine like Sports Illustrated [Swimsuit] says that it’s O.K., maybe even cool, to be past 50 and still be able to feel not just sexy, but for me, to be free and not be self-conscious of your body like you have to hide.”
In a press statement, MJ Day, editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, wrote: “Every single woman included this year brings with her a unique and powerful reason for being featured in the issue.”
“Salma Hayek Pinault is a force of nature. As an actor, producer, philanthropist and champion for women, Salma is a beacon for Latinx communities, a tireless advocate and a person whose passion for art, life and humanity has few rivals.”
“Her why is rooted in her ability to inspire generations to come, by showing us all that living on your own terms is the ultimate power. She has a creative fire that lights up everything she touches. Her passion for life, for storytelling, for humanity is rare. It’s real.”

As for her glowing appearance, Salma gave credit to her 17-year-old daughter Valentina for introducing her to Korean skincare. She also swears by daily meditation to keep her mind and body feeling young.
She shared: “You have to find your way. For me, exercising is hard. It’s really, really difficult to have the discipline to do it. But meditation is a walk in the park, because it’s my own form of it.”
“When I don’t [meditate] for some time, guess what? Not only [does] the face starts to drop and everything starts to drop, [but also] my herniated disc, the problem in my neck, the problem in my hip, my ankles [comes back]. I start breaking down.”
“Sometimes when I’m doing it, people tell me when I come out of the room, ‘Oh my God, you look 20 years old
